It has an intellectual aspect to it. But, as I like most other sci-fi anyway, I like it all: Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Star Wars, Firefly, Baylon 5, etc...

Oh yes, I read one article. Well, it says that Star Trek TOS has much more futuristic than previous Sci-fi. A computer which you could chat with, a replicator, transporter, turbolift, phasers, warp drive and many other things which makes it much more imaginative.

What made ST stand out from all others... My family has watched it since coming to Australia and it was a family thing, I really didnt have much of a choice. I grew up on it unfortunately. I personally find ST to be as boring as bat shit but I did like Voyager. I can watch Voyager episodes from start to finish but not the others, Id get 10minutes into it and then I would leave the room with 'I aint watching this (with profanity attached)' attitude.

I like Stargate the most. Second would be Battlestar Gallactica, Ive only just started getting into that. I rarely watch tv these days, tv be lucky if it was turned on for more than an hour a week.

Yea, that intellectual aspect is the main advantage it has (or actually had) compared to other series in my opinion. Apart from that I like Stargate, but mainly because it can be funny (unfortunately it is not always).

I like Star Trek for the same reason I like most Sci Fi, it is the best commentary i have found on the human condition. Star Trek in particular is more hopeful than the biggest part of the genre. hope is good, but resistance is futile

i like star trek because i think its the most realistic. if we all lived in space. we would have to follow rules just like starfleet. we would fight for our planet just like we fight for our country.

I watched it because it gave me hope for the future of mankind. It had and still has the most interesting tech in my opinion, the characters are smarter than most, and like #2 said, it has and storyline that involves more than just big ships with big guns. Star Trek has lasted 40+ years now and I hope it lasts 40 more. cool

Well Star Trek just different, first of all it has humor, it's just well made and has great actors.
Enough said, I believe that star trek speaks for itself.
