FASA Star Trek Designs - Articles of Interest

nx9117's FASA Designs

Remember the Real Models to Mods we had on the site a good few months back? Well this is the next in line from nx9117 who is providing old Star Trek models, designs and specs for modders to draw inspiration from. This time it's the FASA Star Trek Models.. huh FASA? confused

FASA used to do roleplaying games and miniature wargames. They had published the first licensed Star Trek RPG and also provided several manuals to supplement the RPG.

Why do this? well good question, I am an ardent fan of Star Trek and I believe that showing old real life scaled models and old starship manuals could inspire modders to use the designs to build a ship or two for Legacy or even if a modder from another Star Trek gaming site is passing by they may have a look-see. Therefore it is an article of interest.

Anyone remember the FASA mod for Starfleet Command? Possibly one of the best mods for SFC I have ever played. Well maybe we can see some FASA ships in Legacy too! All these ships are of an age of Trek thats written into 'lore maybe some of you could bring them back into the 21st century!

The thing to note about all these designs is back in the early and mid 80's before the Next Generation came out all of these were considered canon by the majority of Star Trek fans!

So here is the first in the series of FASA Designs

Note:: If you look at the Romulans closely you will notice that Legacy's Battlehawk is there in the manual as the M-4 (Wings of Justice) as is the Skyhawk as the V-9 Night Flyer years before any of the games became a realization! (1985 to be exact, older than a lot of people around these parts) smile

I find it quite funny that the Battlehawk and Skyhawk were essentially FASA designs... Nice to know that Legacy has strong connections with the classic Trek stuff! wink

posted at chrisjonesgaming, just search fasa designs, great to see interest! looks like moonraker is working on more fasa ships!

I have not posted for some time and just wanted to get back into the flow. I have not talked about some of the FASA ships I would like to see in the game for awhile and I have been able to compile a small list of my favorites as well as three links to just about the best website for the FASA history of these original races. If you scroll down on each site to the bottom, they have graphically laid out each of the ships according to class, great images from the books as well as all of the Role Playing Game specs. Please take a look...

Federation

-Baker (without cut out in forward primary hull)
-Loknar
-Brenton
-Larson
-Bader
-Ranger
-Chandley

Klingon

-L-13
-D-10
-D-11 (Awesome)
-D-18
-K-23 (Great)
-L-9

Please check out these websites:

http://home.comcast.net/~ststcsolda/klingons/klingons.html
http://home.comcast.net/~ststcsolda/romulans/romulans.html

A very good synopsis of the second version of the Starship recognition manuals from FASA with good images from the books. I have both of the versions for both the FED and Klingons and Romulans. I prefer the first addition (all above from this) as the number of ships were kept to a minimum with a good variation in sizes and types.

I hope that this is useful and also hope that you might have some of these classes in your database. I look forward to hearing about your progress. Thanks for everything.

Chris

Really enjoyed the new sites!! I did find the manual (at last) but the site from Chris pretty much covers everything. I hope that the LOKNAR, LARSON,and ANDOR are used for the U.U. mod. These were favs from waaaay back and should be used as foundations to the Federations ever expanding fleet! OH, and a refit to the KLINGON 'Fatman" would be nice.

There have been many FASA designs made for other games like SFC and Armada and the V-9 is not the Legacys Skyhawk, the V-9 is some kind of TMP refit of the TOS Bird of Prey
and the already made FASA designs in Legacy show the problem there is in Star Trek games in this days, they have no ideas and not much creativity for new designs as they changed a assault ship to an Batlleship
FASA and SFB have enough designs to use them in a game and there are othe fandom designs they could have used but not much Klingon and Romulan Roll Eyes (sarcastic)

my point exactly. hence I stated in the news item - " If you look at the Romulans closely you will notice that Legacy's Battlehawk is there in the manual as the M-4 (Wings of Justice) as is the Skyhawk as the V-9 Night Flyer years before any of the games became a realization! "

Main reason I called it LEgacy's Skyhawk as this is Legacy and I am pointing out to others that yes Legacy does use designs from a part of Star Trek History that is etched in many people's memories - FASA
wink
