Aftermath November Update

A new month and a progress report on what is going on with Aftermath. This news post will take a different direction to all the previous ones as this one there will be some bad news but there is good news too. It not all doom and gloom. Hit you with the bad stuff first…

As some people already know, Aftermath 2.0 was the last Aftermath release. We will no longer be making large releases as we will never get them out. So it now official, we are no longer working on major releases. The time that goes into them is not worth it. Development blows out to several months over and then leads to canned releases (we are now at 4 canned releases which where Stage 2 and 3, 1.9 and 2.2). Lengthy developments places stress, frustration and lowers team morale which will further dampen the end result. So this is why I have made the decision to end the major releases for Aftermath.

However, this does not mean Aftermath has closed up shop. Instead Aftermath is shifting to add-ons from now on. The success of our first one was the deciding factor in Aftermaths future. With 2.0, we have a solid foundation to continually add new material without having to go through rebuilds of the mod to get everything working properly. This also puts an end to the lengthy development periods as we only deal with a small amount of content per add-on. This allows us to have unprecedented levels of quality control over a major release. The stress and frustration is taken out by going the add-on route as we don’t have to worry about bulking up a release or making sure our content is justified for the long development time it had (the main reason 1.9 was cancelled. Not enough work to justify the development time). Another plus for the add-on route is it doesn’t need the full development team either. This allows each team member to make their own add-ons and lets them step up and take more responsibility with themselves and with their work.

The add-on route direction has been properly thought out though. A plan is set in place that every 4th add-on will see a recompile of 2.0 that includes all previous add-ons. The fourth add-on will be bundled up with the recompile and also be available separately.

Some other good news is the team has expanded since last release. We now have a new permanent team member on for the remainder of all Aftermath projects. We welcome Max Loef onto Aftermath. He has overseen the development of Aftermath from the beginning and will now play a part in how it develops in the future.

lol, I wouldn't ever speak so quickly for me Phoenix. I know there are a few people on both teams that are looking forward to me to caring about Max joining Aftermath, Phoenix, you've just shown an example of this, because a lot of people know about my personal choice of loyalty and all that, but unfortunately for them, no hint of protest here.

One reason is because Legacy isn't the be all and end all of life, nor is modding it, and so why I should be concerned about who mods where, I finally realised I have no idea.

And second, you know, Chris has decided that Max working for Aftermath and Ultimate Universe as well is acceptable, therefore I do too. Simple as that really, and if Chris is convinced that Max is going to continue to work for Ultimate Universe as well, where's the problem, you know what I mean.

mis-worded that actually, I didn't mean looking forward to me ranting and complaining, I more meant expected me to.

max leof will be a priceless asset to the aftermath team. the experience he holds and skills he carries make him possibly one of the most sought after modders! congrats on the new recruit. its disppointing to hear that there will be no more major mods, but you definately ended on a high note with 2.0.

I hope to speak to you soon tjoz and well done.

Im just kinda glad that Max is still in the community as I'm glad that most modders are, which is great because the quest to fix Legacy isn't over, not by a long shot!

Ok now my official take.

Max is very talented and will bring many skills to the Aftermath team. I applaud this as this will showcase Max's abilities in a different way than UUM does. Max is not leaving UUM, by the way. He has a very unique position, doesn't he - being a part of 2 Mods - bottom line - I don't have any difficulties with this as I've known Max long enough and well enough to know his intentions are genuine.

Admittedly I don't play Aftermath much, but the team Tjoz has assembled is worthy of my respect. Good luck guys.

That will make good use of Max's stock ship designs. They really don't fit the UU scheme but they do look pretty cool when put with the other stock models. That should allow people with lower end systems to have some cool new designs.
