  Legacy Files Scripting Contest

|About|

Introducing the 3rd Modding Contest for Legacy Files, this time it's the turn of the Scripting modders out there. Scripting is seen as the easiest modding to complete but if done correctly can introduce some powerful gameplay in Legacy. If you are new to modding and want to enter any of the contests then this is a pretty good way to start.

|Requirements|

  • If you are going to do a script mod that uses other people's models or units then get permission to use them.
  • The mod must not be corrupted or "buggy". It should at least work in stock or patched Legacy

|Tools you may need|

  • Notepad or any text editor

A good practice is to use something like bloodshed Dev C++ to have some colour in the code to help you mod it better.

|How is the Winner Selected?|

Winning script will be chosen on several aspects.

  • The ingenuity of your entry, simply modifying a ship to have more phasers won't win it for you.
  • The quality of gameplay that results from your entry.
  • The overall improvement (deviation from the original file) in your entry

Entries will be judged by the Legacy Files Staff, some external staff from other sites may also be consulted if necessary. There is no special preference, anyone can enter and anyone can win.

Just like the other contests, we will release your entries in the run up to the closing date and we will release the winner with the title of "Legacy Files Scripting Contest Winner"

|Helpful tips|

Scripting is the most generic category.. If you use your imagination and patience scripting can be a really powerful part of modding, in fact it probably affects gameplay the most and it's relatively easy to become an expert in.

Files in Legacy that come under the banner of Scripting are as follows;

  • The AI Files
  • ODF Files
  • Sprite Files
  • events.DAT
  • Input.Map
  • RTS_CGF.h or any files that have a .h extension

    Basically anything that can be opened and edited in a text editor (except .xml files, they are part of the GUI contest)
    So there you have it, there is a wide scope of material to attack!!

    |How to Enter|


    All entries are to be emailed to brianATstlegacyfilesDOTcom with the title of the email beginning with "Legacy Scripting Contest". You must also put your Filefront Username in the email. There is no limit to the amount of submissions you may make, you can do as many as you wish and send in as many as you wish.

    |Prize/Award|


    The one thing up for grabs is sheer bragging rights for being the winner of the first Legacy Files Scripting Contest, even if you don't win entering the contest will benefit your modding skills.

    |Closing Date|

    Closing date for the contest is Friday 21st December.

    Winning entry will be shown on the Sunday the 23rd of December so if you want to win then get going!
