Star Trek: Legacy was designed to be a new age of Star Trek gaming. After Bethesda got the rights to making games for Star Trek from Activision (who were the publishers of multiple Star Trek games) they set about immediately in making two new games. Tactical Assault was to be a handheld console of the already popular “Starfleet Command series”. Legacy was to be the main game though, designed for use with the X-Box 360 and PC. During the summer of 2006, Bethesda also released news of Star Trek: Encounters, a refined version of Legacy for the PS2.
Still, it was Legacy which was to take centre-stage of this trio of new games. After Mad Doc got involved for the new project, they took the old game engine of Armada 2 (from about 2002) and from after the game, had already begun work on a new type of game, technically making this game almost 4 years long in development. The advanced engine reduced the fleet combat from hundreds of ships to the focus onto ship-to-ship combat in stead of fleet-to-fleet. Many features of Armada 2 were still visible however from pictures released in development, including weapon textures, nebulae (although looking much better) and some other ideas, including regionalised systems damage, have indeed come from Armada 2.
On board with the project includes many skilled personnel, including P81, a fantastic model and texture artist who has released work for the community on multiple occasions, including his famed Excelsior class which stands out in front of other models in the development release pictures. Big writers such as DC. Fontana who wrote for Star Trek: The Next Generation and helped with Star Trek: Bridge Commander is on board, as well as others who use the official forums and talk with the community about the game (without giving away the games secrets).
The game was designed to take the player from before the Federation in Archer’s NX-01 Enterprise, through to famous Captain Kirk’s Constitution Class NCC-1701 Enterprise, its multiple refits and from him to Captain Picard’s dreadnaught Galaxy Class NCC1701-D and the latest Enterprise, the Sovereign Class NCC-1701-E. Alongside them, missions include the “tiny” Defiant Class which nobly defended the Alpha Quadrant during the Dominion War, captained by Sisko and the renowned Intrepid Class of Janeway’s USS Voyager, which lost in the Delta Quadrant for many years, returned home dealing a crippling blow to the Borg. Through meeting them and 15 missions, you have to stop an enemy that fights through the Federation’s history. Receive help from old enemies and ask for assistance from the dark with the Klingons and Romulans in-game and fight the Federation’s greatest foe, the Borg, as you un-cover the plans and stop the enemy that threatens the Alpha Quadrant.
With over 60 ships in-game, 4 races and 3 eras, Star Trek Legacy is a big-game where you can command anywhere between 1-4 ships at once from small scout ships with minimal armaments to the dreadnaughts of the races boasting multiple heavy hitting weapons. 40 years from the creation of Star Trek and the NCC-1701 and Legacy was out to show why Star Trek has lasted for so long.

I hope the latter.
If it was the latter then wouldn't it be called Star Trek bridge Commander 2?

I'm assuming this is going to end up playing out like a Star Trek version of Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
Do not be so patronizing |

But even if the fancy (Armada 2 based map editor I believe) doesn't work on my game, it's still good for a nice bit of dogfighting. |

RedShirtGuy96 From: (Ohio) Joined: August 13th, 2011 Posts: 101 | The problem with stock legacy is some of the models and textures are not canon. I reccommend these mods Trek battles 3 and Enemy At The Gate. TB3 because they convert Bridge Commander ships to legacy(which is what they should of done in the first place. Bridge Commander ship models are far superior to stock legacy) and Enemy At The Gate because Stargate always goes good with Star Trek. |
