Mission Scripting Series (Part 1) - File Description

Description:
I finally decided to redo my mission scripting tutorials and to publish them here. The first one is very short and explains how to set up the mission editor. It's pretty easy and should be achievable for everybody. More tutorials will follow.

Possibly include direct urls to the required downloads?

For the Modified Mission Editor the compiler path should default to the proper Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 compiler directory. Recently I had someone missing the backslash at the end so I should probably check if the default has the backslash or not..

If the C++ Compiler isn't installed (or the path is wrong) you should get an error message that it couldn't be found rather than it sort of looking like it compiled.

Also since stl12s.dsl and stl12r.drl (you missed the s and r in the filenames? ) already exist the person following the tutorial should check the "date" on the files, to see that they were both just recompiled, rather than being the originals.

Just checked the backslash on the compiler path doesn't matter either way.

Also to verify the if the Compiler path is wrong you will get a message rather than a "fake compile window". Apparently you created this with the v1.004b or earlier version of the mission editor. For v1.004c I added that message to help eliminate the mix ups that often occur because of it for new users. That was practically the only change between v1.004b and v1.004c.

Yes, I used an earlier version. I will change it. Also, the original mission editor deleted the original scripts...anyway, I will fix it and re-upload it. Thanks for the info.

oh forgot. The installer for the 1.04c will not place mainmenu.xml etc into your install so it won't mess with the TC Mods or any menu mods. The original placed them unzipped into a folder that happened to be caught before the ui folder but the 1.04c has included them in a .zip file that the end user must manually decompress if needed.

With the 1.04c it won't be deleting them if the compiler is missing as it does the check for it first and aborts, but a Failed compile might delete the files. Other than the check for the compiler existing it should work the same as the original one did.
