Galaxy X Refit - File Description

Description:
Here is the Future timeline Galaxy Class "X-Refit". It's powerful and has all of its vital systems strenghtened vastly. It's comparable in strength to the Borg Cube. The weapon's hardpoints are all over the place to be fair and it is a low poly model but other than that it plays well.

Note:
Please refrain from spamming about A2 ports for this port. Another thing, if you do not like the screenshots then don't download and then complain embarrasment

**Galaxy X Refit Class** BY Cmdr. Lawrence
*******************

For use with STARTREK: Legacy

************************ IMPORTANT! ***********************************************
Original GalaxyX Model is Credited to "9 of nine" and not this author's original work
***********************************************************

This archive contains a re-textured GalaxyX originally released for and imported from
Armada II. I've included updated odfs for the ship as well as an updated phase-cannon
special weapon. The Phase-cannon fires automatically and isn't a one hit kill, but
is quite devastating. The GalaxyX is powerful enough to take on a borg cube all by
itself and is a joy to pilot. It is armed to the teeth and will make stellar debris
out of most enemies. I'm gonna have to beef up that scimitar I dled because it gets
smoked pretty easily. Klingons should warp away in fear if they were that smart.
Romulans, will want to stay behind the neutral zone until that scimitar refit is
finished. OK enough of that... Just have fun.

**** Known issues********************************************************************
I wasn't able to fix the weapons to fire behind the ship, If someone tells me
how to view the hardpoint locations I might be able to fix it, but right now the ship
is open if approached from above and behind. I consider it balanced because if you
were to fight it you wouldn't want to be at the business end of the Phase-cannon
anyway. Hey everything super powerful needs a weakness right... err ok I want it
fixed too. I just don't feel like going trial and error with the hardpoints.

Obviously, due to it being an import from Armada II, the model has
certain drawbacks and lacks some features. If someone fully updates the Sod to M3D
format, I will be happy to finish retexturing it by adding glow, specular, and Bump
textures. It is obviously, a low poly model and a really good one at that. People
either need to get over this or not install it. You don't know what you're missing
As for the canon crap, I agree up to a point. BUT, SOME of you need to admit that you
can't and never will be satisfied. Personally, I think you're whiners. Everyone else,
I think you'll be happy with this until someone comes along and makes a better one.
*************************************************************

[Note: I have reworked the .odf files. I tried to make sure that they were error free and
they work great on my machine, but they may not be compatible if you have already modded
your installation Of Legacy. If for some reason they cause problems delete them, and
make your own.]

Installation: (This assumes you already know how to and have unlocked Legacy for modding)

Open the Zip Archive

extract the files as follows:

F_GalaxyX.odf file into the ships directory [ ==> odf ==> ships ]

fphascan.odf file into the special weapons directory [ ==> odf ==> special_weapons ]

fphascano.odf file into the special weapons directory [ ==> odf ==> special_weapons ]

XRefit.tga file into the RGB directory [ ==> textures ==> RGB ]

HI_F_GalaxyX.dds file into the DDS directory [ ==> textures ==> DDS ]

F_GalaxyX.m3d file into the m3d directory [ ==> M3D ]

After installation: you can find the GalaxyX in the Fleet Selection for TNG Era

Better than the first effort that was put forth for the X. Worth the download. Glad to see the mods flowing in, I'll try to get the rear weaps to work with a mod of my own

Strong as a Borg Cube? Eeeks.

I'd reccomend setting a single hardpoint with a new weapon file that simulates the strength of the Phaser Cannon.

The rest of the weapon hardpoints should be as strong as a stock Galaxy, or slightly stronger to simulate weapon advancements over 20 years.

As for the texture problems, there is of course the brand new model exporter plugin! That should solve all the problems with the model including textures and rear-firing weapons! Yay! You can find the exporter here or at the official Star Trek Forums at Bethseda.

If the exporter does not fix the hardpoints issue, there is a great hardpoints tutorial at edited by staff

Also, I'd reccomend lowering the phaser count to just 3 (two normal emitters and the Phase Cannon).

Other than the usual problems associated with .sod renaming, it looks pretty good! Great work! I hope the next version is even better.

Actually, upon thinking a little harder, the power output is fine. Considering how far anti-Borg tech has come by the end of the current timeline, the future timeline should have no trouble with a cube.

I still reccomend lowering the emitters to 3, though.

I'd appreciate you posting anything you figure out on the rear weapons

I'll try to be brief, but your comments left me with alot to say.
I've got milkshape3d and the exporter. The trouble is the importer will only
open "stock" SOD files from Armada 1-2. So I am unable to import the Galaxy X to change it and besides I don't have permission to mess with the model itself, just texture it. Heck I'm not even a modeler, I just skin and code a bit. If Moonraker decides to release that importer he has been working on I might be able to do something as long as I don't have to change the model. Heck I can't even open the SOD to see where the hardpoints are.

As for the number of emitters, I also have my own personal Galaxy Class Battle Refit that I made that already has 3. The reason behind this is contained in the Technical Manual I have. Basically the Galaxy Class was designed to be modular so that mission specific upgrades can be made easily by swapping out modules. I assumed that this is mostly all a Galaxy Class Battle Refit would be. All redundant modules containing labs, cargo holds, recreation, holodecks etc. would be replaced with extra shield emitters, phaser emitters, torpedo bays, Energy Cells, Redundant Life support systems, extra deuterium/anti-matter storage etc. At any rate, I figured the Galaxy X, would be like this taken to an extreme. It's obvious that it's main objective is battle/defense because of the big gun. The Galaxy Class is a big ship. Dual firing phaser emitters do not seem over the top when you take the above upgrade possibilities into account.

BTW, Your link doesn't work even if I hand type it ;p

So wait, the official news announcement tells me that I can't post criticism unless I provide resources to help the modder out? And then when I post said resource, I get my post edited for advertising a site that I am in no way connected with.

Yay.

Well, Commander Lawrence: I would say to go to the Star Trek Legacy official forums (unless that's advertising) and click around a few links in people's signatures that lead to the site in question. I can provide you with direct links if you wish, just PM me on those boards. My username is the same as it is here.

I apologize for problems anyone may be having. I'm re-submitting the zip with corrections. Hopefully this will solve any problems you might be having with the game crashing.
